Photographic Interlude: I Love Texas in the Springtime

April 30, 2011

This morning, I popped into my car just as the sun was peeping over the horizon and went off to explore one of the nearby parks. Of course, Thistle came along:

As we set off down the path, there wasn’t another soul in sight:

But soon, we found a friend:

And signs of spring:

Splashes of colour:

After a leisurely hour, Thistle’s patience with the camera was growing thin:

But I couldn’t resist one last shot as we headed for home:

I’m toying with the notion of posting a photograph that I’ve taken on days when it hurts too much to type of a real post. I could add favourite book quotes to make it more book blog appropriate, like the Saturday bookish quote series I’ve been doing, except with all kinds of passages (not just ones directly discussing books). What do y’all think? Would relatively regular photographic posts be alright, or should I start a different place (ie blog, perhaps private) for them? Am I vastly overestimating my photography skills when I do these posts? -Eva

I have loved this post. Thistle is gorgeous and it is so nice to see a bit of Texas!

Gorgeous, Eva. I love that time between Spring/Summer. Oooh, the perfect time to go for a walk or a bike ride. :) I don’t mind photo posts, hun. I really like your pictures so if you wanted to post pictures like this one, I’d be happy with it.

Who says you always have to post about books?? I like your photographic interludes.

  4. April 30, 2011 10:53 am

Those are lovely, and I would be thrilled if you did photographic posts when you’re feeling too poorly to write about books. (PS, Thistle could not be cuter.)

Your photographs are beautiful … and they make me slightly homesick … I’m from Oklahoma originally … and though these pictures were in Texas they remind me of parts of Oklahoma.

I think photographic interludes are a splendid idea … especially when you aren’t feeling well enough to write a full blog post. As I said your photographs of Texas remind me of home … so I fully appreciate them … plus I love seeing your cute puppy!

I think posting photos would be wonderful, Eva. Whatever you want to share is perfect – books, life, photos, frustrations – it’s all good.

We’re cloudy up the road from you. Are you guys supposed to get rain and be much cooler early next week? The deer and the cactus – classic Central Texas.

Go for it! Your photos are lovely–I really like seeing these slices of life in places I have never been to. Today I especially like the pictures of Thistle, though–so adorable.

I like your photo posts :)

This week, I’ve posted several photos of my neighborhood. We were hit by tornadoes on Wednesday, and I think it would have been strange to keep posting about books when people’s homes were wrecked and some (not in my neighborhood) were dying. Yes, post photos and tell us about your dog occasionally. My cat posts her own Caturday stuff, like this morning’s review of a book about cats:

It’s your blog, so do your thing. Post about whatever interests you. I enjoyed your walk on a spring day in Texas. As Kay said, “It’s all good.”

I love the photographic interludes. Also, this is your blog, so you should control the content.

  11. April 30, 2011 4:29 pm

I loved these pictures and would enjoy seeing more. I agree that book blogs don’t always have to be books and I would enjoy you sharing more of your pictures :)

I love these “taking a walk” shots. I’m still waiting on Spring here in the Midwest. Thistle is adorable. I hope your arm heals quickly.

  22. May 1, 2011 9:18 am

I LOVE the photographs! Keep it up. It’s fun to get a visual of what people are doing and seeing when you only know them online! :)

Thistle is so cute! I enjoy your visual posts. Hope you feel better soon. =)

Thistle is the cutest little dog! I vote for photo posts too.

Yes! That’s a wonderful idea. You take great photos and it’s a way for you to stay in touch even during the days you’re not feeling too well. Looking forward to it!

A delightful post, Eva. We enjoy accompanying you two on your Spring walk. It is magic for you to be getting exercise in that charming setting. Imagine meeting a deer!!

I’m a little bit notorious for being image-averse, but even I like to see a photo from time to time, especially of things that are personal. Scenery loses my attention unless the blogger has the time (and ability) to type in why this particular image means something to her. I have infinite interest in pet photos!

Please post the photos here! I don’t mind if they aren’t book related. Lovely walk you took!

I have been away for too long! You now have a dog! What a sweetie..

  30. May 2, 2011 8:24 pm

Thistle is so adorable! And post those photos. We just enjoy your posts. Period.

  31. May 3, 2011 12:26 pm

    Thanks for the inspiration.

I’m going for a walk with my little puppers now.

  32. May 3, 2011 1:44 pm

I like the photo posts. It’s a nice change every once in a while when I’m reading lots of book related posts, which are always very text heavy.

  33. May 3, 2011 5:40 pm

Oh the pup is SO cute!!!!

  34. May 4, 2011 7:52 am

Lovely photos, and love your idea of posting pictures and passages Eva.

  35. May 4, 2011 4:31 pm

Your pictures make me miss walking in the woods and just breathing fresh air! The city doesn’t have as many beautiful colors, especially with all the rainy days.

  36. May 4, 2011 10:29 pm

I love your pictures. I’m crazy about your writing, but by all means, supplement to your heart’s content and your hand/arm’s relief.

  37. May 5, 2011 6:11 am

Wow — I love Texas too!!!! Great little series of photos.

  38. May 5, 2011 10:39 am

It’s not just the photographs you’re good at–it’s the brief narrative build-ups to each picture.

As a Texas writer, these pictures make me homesick! And my little pound puppy Deanie looks about the size of Thistle.

  39. May 6, 2011 4:11 pm

I think your photographs are wonderful. The vast array of subjects is great and it’s cool to see the things and places in your world.

It’s a great idea to post photos on the days when you’re having too much pain to type up a post…but on other days, too. The photos are another way for you to talk to us, to communicate

  40. May 6, 2011 4:13 pm

Oh I meant to say that the photo of the doe is stunning…from looking at it I get a sense of calm and peace and beauty….

Wonderful post Eva, thanks for taking us with you! I am so sorry you are under the weather again, I know its different but I hear you, just take your time and blog when you can and you want to. We will all still be here waiting.
