Gone Road Trippin’

March 18, 2010

It’s that time again: the Great Migration South. Sadly, this year I’ll only be spending a week in Texas*, and as always, I’m expecting radio silence until I get back. That should be just in time to do a Sunday Salon on the 28th, but I’m making no promises. ;)

Speaking of silence, I’ve been pretty quiet all week. First of all, I’ve been getting myself into Spring Cleaning gear. Between closet culling and room re-organising and library book returning* and Goodwill thrifting*, I’ve been a touch too manic for blogging. Also, Something Sad happened on Monday night, and since then when I’ve had downtime, I’ve spent it stuffing my face with chocolate and watching old movies*, which once again is not really conducive to blogging. So that’s why I haven’t replied to the overwhelming amount of comments on my audiobook post; when I say overwhelming, I mean that in the best sense. Seeing all of you take the time to comment on what, to me, felt like a kind of random and half-baked post, really made me smile. And I could do with some smile-worthy stuff right now. I’ll be replying to all comments as soon as I get back from my trip; I read every single one of them when I see new ones, but I like to devote time to replying & visiting blogs & all that fun stuff, so I’d rather wait until I have the energy to do that.

Anyway, the gist of this post is that I’m on blogging break! I’ve been there unofficially since Tuesday, but now I can come out and say it. And yes, I accept thanks for not filling up your Google Reader. Chocolate donations preferred.

P.S.: Nothing exciting better happen while I’m away!

-*-

Footnote One: This is made up for with the knowledge that I’ll be moving back there permanently towards the end of this year!

Footnote Two: Oh yes, I decided 70 books out at one time was excessive, and my new personal limit is 30. I think that’s an admirable amount of self control. ;)

Footnote Three: I’ve been parcelling out my Christmas money so I can thrift on occasion…I went on Tuesday, and it was like a fairy godmother with exactly my body type and colouring decided to donate a ton of short sleeved good-quality (Gap, Express, Banana Republic, J. Crew, etc.) blouses that all look like they’ve never been worn before…I came home with 11 shirts for $14! Including two short sleeved 100% Cashmere t-shirt style sweaters! Best Goodwill trip ever!

Footnote Four: Have y’all SEEN Dark Victory? As if I needed another reason to love Bette Davis. And today, I picked up The Private Life of a Masterpiece from the library…it’s SEVEN DVDs of nerdy art history awesomeness. So in between Bette and Katherine and Audrey and Ingrid, I have documentaries to cheer me up.

Enjoy your break Eva. Thanks for the Bette Davis recommendation, I recently discovered her fabulous-ness. I shall put that on my Love Film list…!

I love how half of your post is footnotes. Have you ever read Sharon Creech’s book “Heartbeat”? The narrator of the book likes footnotes a lot. It is really cute and your current footnote habits reminded me of that book :)

Hey, great blog! I just stumbled upon it this week and sent you a request on twitter (just in case you got a request from somebody named Nicole with a flapper style pic) so I can keep track of it since I don’t use my Google Reader anymore (I prefer using twitter as a sort of reader).

Have a great trip, I love Austin my brother lives there and I wish I could move there myself :)

Road trip! Again I’m jealous. Moving back to the sunny South…ahhh, it’s just a dream I have for someday in the future. You’re lucky.

Sorry about your Sad Thing :-(. Chocolate is good medicine, for sure. I’ll be on spring break too, so you won’t have to miss anything from me, ha ha. I think at least a couple other book bloggers are taking off at the same time, too.

Hooray for your bargain finds — I know I was wondering if one person, and if so, who it was that had donated all those books I had found the other day!

  22. March 19, 2010 1:55 pm

Wow, what an amazing Goodwill trip. I haven’t had one that successful in ages! Have a great trip to Texas, and feel better–but also, enjoy stuffing your face with some chocolate and watching old movies ;) Sometimes you just gotta…

Have a good trip! I’ve just caught up on about a bajillion of your posts that I didn’t read while I was sick, from vaginas to ears in audio, you’ve covered it all, girl! It made me laugh, made me think, and made me glad I’m up to date on all that’s been going on over here.

I hope to see you for Dance Dance Dance, and whaddya mean Sheep Chase was only your second Murakami? You need to read more than two! ;)
