Library Loot: October 21-27, 2009

October 21, 2009

library-lootLibrary Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by myself and Marg that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

Want to share your loot? Marg has the Mr. Linky this week!

I’m back to vlogging my loot, so here we go (this morning, I realised I had forgotten to talk about the best one-The Children’s Book by A.S. Byatt-because I was reading it so it was in a different place! whoops!):

Gray Horses looks wonderfull, and my library actually has it! Woo-hoo!

I cant’ wait to read Marcelo, too. I’ve had that one on my wishlist for several months now.

The UK covers for The Belgariad are less offensive and indicative of how good the books are.

How lovely of Chris to have the earrings that you coveted sent to you! Lovely.

I am so disappointed that The Children’s Book missed out on the vlog ;)!

  3. October 21, 2009 8:35 am

Wow…I just added a bunch of these books to my wishlist. Thanks for sharing.

  4. October 21, 2009 8:48 am

You always find the best books at the library! I’d like to read Marcelo in the Real World.

  5. October 21, 2009 9:06 am

Hope the next two Belgariad books are also as good as you remember them.

  6. October 21, 2009 9:13 am

It looks like you have a great stack of books for the readathon (I am always so jealous of the book selection your library offers!), and I’m really looking forward to your vlogs! I remember watching them last year and was really entertained by them!

I totally agree, fantasy covers really need some help! Some of them are okay, but for the most part they really don’t look appealing until I’ve heard about them a few times. I haven’t read any of the Eddings books; a friend loaned one to me and I just couldn’t get into it.

I did love Nefertiti though and I hope you do too! The earrings are lovely. =)

Unfortunately, I’m at library so am not able to watch your video here. However, I’ll be sure to catch up tomorrow (on a “media fast” on Wednesdays, well, of sorts, at least at home …just needed to write a Library Loot post, of course. :). I can say, though, that I enjoyed the Eddings books when I read them a couple of years ago. I need to return to the other series he has. Anyway, will check out your vlog tomorrow. :)

I add new books to my TBR list every time I read your blog! ;-) The vlog was fun. Thanks for sharing!

I love the post secret books! They are so fun to look at.

  11. October 21, 2009 11:43 am

You got Marcelo in the Real World :D :D I read it during the last readathon and absolutely loved it :D So glad you’re reading that one Eva!!! Gray Horses looks so awesome!! I need to get that one! Your earrings are adorable on you :) Glad they made it your way!! And I was going to tell you that you looked really good in this vlog :) I like your minimalist look! Ooooh, and I love Postsecret :)

  12. October 21, 2009 11:44 am

OMG somebody get the smiley police on me!!!

  13. October 21, 2009 12:15 pm

I wasn’t a huge fan of The Texicans, but I remember you saying you wanted to read it because you have an affinity for Texas :-) (I think, right?). Marcelo and the Real World has a GORGEOUS cover!

  14. October 21, 2009 1:47 pm

I love the earrings!! And yay, Hope Larson :D I haven’t read Gray Horses yet, but I really love her stuff.

PS: You’re reading Death and the Maidens! I have a bit of a crush on Mary Shelley, and I’ve had my eye on that one ever since I heard of it at Stuck in a Book.I’ve read a couple of other books about their circle, but it seems that I never tire of them. Can’t wait for your review. Also, I think that if I read Alias Grace and The Children’s Book at the same time, the sheer awesomeness would make my HEAD EXPLODE.

*sends the smiley police after Chris*

(Just kidding…then they’d come and get me too :( )

  15. October 21, 2009 4:10 pm

You find the coolest books, Eva!!! I love the sounds of An African in Greenland. What a combo! It sounds fascinating. I’m also interested in the Wilkie Collins books. I’ve never read any of his stuff, and I’m not sure how I’ve gotten along without reading his work until now. I don’t think I even own any of it. Crazy!

Enjoy your loot, and I can’t wait to see your posts for the Read-a-Thon!

  16. October 21, 2009 5:52 pm

    I’m jealous of your loot!

  17. October 21, 2009 6:24 pm

I absolutely agree about fantasy covers. I enjoy the books, but I’m often glad when they come into the library over ILL and have huge stickers and labels that cover the entire cover.

It’s embarrassing but I haven’t read Nefertiti yet even though I got it for Christmas last year. I really do want to read it though, so I look forward to your review! I also look forward to your thoughts on The Children’s Book; I’m reading it right now and I think it’s fantastic.

  18. October 22, 2009 2:03 am

The earrings are adorable!! I want some! How funny. I just picked up Nefertitti at the library myself. I’ve been meaning to read Moran for a while now. I keep seeing her books all over the place.

Great stack!! Since I have to work this weekend, i’ll be cheering y’all on when I can!

  19. October 22, 2009 6:15 am

Wow, what a great number of books for the read-a-thon! Have fun this weekend!

So they won’t let request a hardcover if they have the audio? That’s odd.

  20. October 22, 2009 7:04 am

I know, I know, the broken record thing…but dammit Eva, you’re just so stinkin’ adorable that I have to say it! That you’re so stinkin’ adorable, that is. :D

And seriously, isn’t having a read-a-thon pile of massive proportions really half the fun?!!

  21. October 22, 2009 7:15 am

Wow, those are ugly Belgariad covers! I have the other ones – the original ones, I think. I also have Queen of Sorcery on my readathon pile.

Oh yay, you have the Janet Frame book! :D I’m thinking of vlogging during the readathon, maybe; with Patrick this time :)

    Looking forward to Saturday!

  22. October 22, 2009 8:50 am

    Pretty earrings! ;)

Great loot, Eva! I had Marcelo in the Real World out from the library earlier this summer, but didn’t get to it in my allotted time and someone had a hold on it, so they didn’t let me renew it. Now it’s been ‘out’ every time I go to the library! Argh! Looking forward to your thoughts on it.

    Have fun with the Read-a-thon!

  23. October 22, 2009 9:02 am

Very nice earrings. Gray Horses looks so good!

  24. October 22, 2009 9:49 am

Amanda, I hope you get it from your library soon! :)

Claire, I’m glad in England at least Belgariad gets its due. :) Chris is definitely lovely! And I’m sure you’re crying into your pillow not to see The Children’s Book.

A Bookshelf Monstrosity, I hope you enjoy the ones you added! :)

    BermudaOnion, thanks!

    Zee, I hope so too!

    Steph, aww-thanks!

Meghan, which Eddings book was it? I’m glad you loved Nefertiti!

JustaReadingFool, I totally get the media fast thing. :) I’m thinking about only using Twitter every other week, lol.

Dana, aww-thanks! I’m that way with lots of blogs. :)

HistoryofShe, they are fun, aren’t they?

Chris, you’ve been warned; next smiley violation will result in a citation. Thanks so much-I feel self-conscious w/ barely any make-up on, because I got used to wearing it, lol, but I think in the long run it’s better to not become dependent on the stuff. ;) And thanks again for the earrings-you rock!!!

    Aarti, yes-I’m a Texan! I remember you insulting Texas. :p I agree-it is a gorgeous cover!

Nymeth, thanks! I am reading Death & the Maidens-it rocks so far!!! And my head is totally almost exploding from those two novels together. :)

    Andi, thanks!

Kathleen, I bet your library has some awesome books too!

Ashley, I agree The Children’s Book is fantastic! I wonder why fantasy covers don’t have good art?!

Stephanie, thanks! And I’m glad you’re cheerleading when you can!

Rebecca, I went a little crazy w/ read-a-thon books. ;) We can only ILL books that aren’t the library catalogue.

Debi, aww-you’re so nice! And yes, a ridiculously huge read-a-thon pile is half the fun!

Maree, I’m glad the original ones are prettier! Patrick’s so cute-I’d love to see him in a vlog! :)

Christine, thank you! I hate holds when you can’t renew books. :)

    Bybee, thanks!

  25. October 22, 2009 8:52 pm

Oh, yay, I am glad that your earrings showed up! :)

  26. October 23, 2009 4:32 am

The only one of those I have read is Michelle Moran, but there are a couple of others at least that I am interested in.
