Leaving On a Jet Plane…
So I’m off to upstate New York to celebrate my grandparents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary! I get back next Saturday, and I won’t have internet access, so I’ve got posts prepared that WordPress will publish regularly, if it knows what’s good for it. ;)
For books, I decided to only bring review copies, and to not go overboard. So travelling in my carry-on with me will be:
Monqiue and the Mango Rains
Legerdemain
Special Assignments
When We Were Romans
and The Questory of Root Karbunkulus. And of course the latest edition of The Economist, which I’ve purposely avoided all week to give me plane reading! lol
Isn’t the suitcase cute? I got it at a vintage sale in a set of three: it’s the largest. And it better be cute, since Northwest is charging me $15 each way to check it. Evil airlines!
Anyway, while posts should appear, I won’t be able to reply to comments or e-mails or read all of y’alls blogs while I’m gone. Of course you should still leave comments! lol
Have a great trip! I hate traveling, but I love the opportunity to sit and read uninterrupted. ‘See’ ya when you get back.
That is a cute suitcase! Stupid Northwest! Man you are on top of it with the ARCs! I just recently requested When We Were Romans, it sounds so very cute!
I’ll starting leaving those messages right away! :-) Have a good trip!
Lezlie
Have a wonderful time! I’m looking forward to your thoughts on Karbunkulus especially.
That suitcase is awesome! Enjoy your trip! :)
Have a great time! I just put in a request for When We Were Romans so I’ll look forward to your thoughts on it. Blech to NWA. We always have to fly them since they’re practically the only carrier out of the twin cities. These baggage rules are unbelievable.
Yep, it’s a cute old skool suitcase. Have fun!
Have a great trip!
Have a good trip! I’ve seen When we were Romans mentioned a place or two, looks intriging.
Have a great trip and happy anniversary to your grandparents.
Airlines pull their wit’s end to compensate for the staggering fuel cost, and the easiest way is to incur charges on the passengers. United charges $15 as well for all domestic flights.
I have programmed posts for up to 10 days in advance while I was in Hong Kong…it seemed to work fine. ;)
Enjoy your trip and congratulations to your parents! Wow!
Maybe when you get back you can do a post on how to get ARC’s. ;-)
You got Monique & the Mango Rains? I was hoping for that one; be sure to tell us how it was!
Cute case! Will be interested to see what you read first. I think I’d start with the Economist, then the Romans and some Legerdemain and end up reading Special Assignments just because it looks like the kind of book that would distract me from my fear of flying. Enjoy your trip.
Great suitcase. Have a wonderful trip. And happy anniversary to your grandparents!
I love the suitcase! Enjoy your trip, and congratulations to your grandparents. 50 years is a real accomplishment in this day and age, and worth a wonderful celebration.
Have a great trip, happy Anniversary to your grandparents, and I like how 5 books for a week’s trip doesn’t count ‘as a lot’!!! LOL
Have a wonderful trip and a great party! I really liked “Special Assignments”. Will look forward to hearing your take on it.
Hope you’re having a good time! It sounds like fun! I could use a litttle away time myself, so I’ll live vicariously through you. :)
Lisa, that is the best part of flying! Hours to read. :)
Alea, thanks! And When We Were Romans was very good, but not cute.
Lezlie, thanks! :)
Andi, I’m afraid I didn’t like Karbunkulus. You’ll hear all about it on the 24th. ;)
Jessi, thanks!
Tara, I had a lay over in the twin cities! :D And When We Were Romans was very, very good.
Chartroose, thanks!
Lisa, thanks!
Bart, thanks! It was really good. :D
Matt, what upsets me about the luggage situation is that first class fliers can check THREE bags for free. It’s enough to make you a socialist!
C.B., it was my grandparents, but thanks. ;) And I already did a post on how to get free books: I’ll dig up the link for you! Lately, I’ve added a new tactic: shamelessness. If another blogger talks about an ARC that sounds good, I go to the publisher’s website and e-mail them. So far, no one’s said no!!
Christine, I loved it!
Pete, thanks! I totally did start with The Economist, but then I went with Monique and the Mango Rains, because it had bigger print and I was tired. :D After that, I tried alternating fic and nonfic.
Stefanie, thanks!
Robin, isn’t it? My other grandparents’ anniversary is next summer.
Susan, see: you tease me, but then I ran out of books to read! :p
Melanie, I loved the first novella of Special Assignments. The second one made me sad. :( Akunin doesn’t have a problem killing people off, does he?
Danielle, it was fun! I didn’t get to see people as much as I expected to, though. :(
