The greatest gift is a passion for reading. It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is a moral illumination.

Love that quote. I agree a love of reading is a gift itself. It has gotten me through so much. I have to have dental surgery next week and reading is getting me through the worst which is just the wait!

I hope your surgery goes well. :) Books are such a great comfort, aren’t they?

My niece is already a big reader. I was taking her to the library one day and she said: “We’re just library girls, Auntie.” lol

      • November 13, 2010 12:11 pm

Wonderful to know that! Glad to know that you are passing on your love for books to your niece too.

I’m in Early (early) Childhood Ed and I feel like that is THE key to loving life and learning in the future. SUCH an amazing quote.

I agree! I also think being a voracious reader helps A LOT on standardised tests.

Hoping to give this gift to my son. He’s a month old today and has a fairly good library already :) And, yes, we do read to him already :)

Thank you for commenting! For a long while, my health precluded me replying to everyone. Yet I missed the conversation, so I'm now making an effort to reply again. It might take a few days though, and there will be times when I simply can't. Regardless, I always read and value what you say.
