Quick Post on Twitter

March 4, 2010

Brief interruption of normal blogging to tell everyone that I just made my Twitter account (BiblioEva) protected (it creeps me out when random people w/ odd user names retweet my stuff), so if you’d like to follow me, it’ll say ‘pending’ and wait until I approve you. Of course, I’ll approve any book bloggers! :)

I also went through all my followers, which I hadn’t done in a really long time. I decided to remove anyone who a) had never tweeted me and b) whose name/icon I didn’t recognise from comments on my blog/me visiting their blogs. It just would have taken too long to figure out who was a book blogger and who wasn’t. So I’m sure I accidentally removed book bloggers (in fact, I got too into the groove & know that I deleted users I didn’t mean to because my hands move faster than my brain), and I very much apologise for that. It wasn’t a personal thing at all, and I hope that I didn’t step on anyone’s toes. So if you find that I’ve dropped of your radar, and you want me back on it, you’ll have to follow me again. The good news is, if you’d like to follow me, I’ll know who you are and that you’re on Twitter, so I’ll be able to follow you too!

While I’m here, if there are any new book bloggers that read my blog and don’t comment, feel free to consider this your invitation to de-lurk. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with lurking, but I visit the blogs of everyone who leaves a comment here, so if you’d like me to visit yours, that’s the surefire way to do it. :) (Just make sure you fill in the URL box.) I love supporting new book bloggers, so don’t be shy! Copying the wonderful and hilarious Care, I’ll even give you a template…”Hi Eva! My name is ___ and my book blog is called ___. Come and have a look!”

And with that, I return to your regular schedule. Don’t miss today’s nerd-tastic post if you go for that sort of thing, and tomorrow I intend to gush over one of the best nonfiction books I’ve read in awhile (which is conveniently about women’s history).

I just sent you a twitter request, you will be able to tell it is a book blogger, @Chewdigestbooks.

    • March 5, 2010 12:03 am

I’ve accepted it & am now following you! :)

  2. March 4, 2010 8:24 pm

I was wondering where you had disappeared to! I follow a list that follows you and your tweets disappeared from it. Now I’ve requested to follow you directly. :)

    • March 5, 2010 12:03 am

Sorry about that! I don’t even know the whole list thing; for a blogger, I’m a bit of a Luddite, lol. (I resisted Twitter for months!) I’ve approved and followed you back. :)

  3. March 4, 2010 9:23 pm

I know what you mean, it worries me too, it has been a long time since I’ve accessed Twitter. I hope you haven’t removed me, I’ll just have to check :)

    • March 5, 2010 12:04 am

      Nope-I didn’t remove you! I recognised you. :)

  4. March 4, 2010 11:53 pm

I am an old blogger but a longtime lurker…..

    • March 5, 2010 12:04 am

Thanks for leaving a comment! I’m off to visit your blog now. :)

I sent you a twitter request and although I am just a starting bookblogger, I hope you’ll accept me.

    • March 5, 2010 3:17 pm

I’ve accepted you and follow you now! Congrats on starting a book blog. :D

  6. March 5, 2010 2:46 am

    Hello Eva,

I officially de-lurk! In fact, I’m trying to lurk less and comment more on other people’s blogs. I shall also follow you on Twitter (@kirstymch). :)

    Kirsty

    • March 5, 2010 3:18 pm

Nice to meet you Kirsty! :) I’m following you on Twitter now too. I think every book blogger is constantly striving to comment more, lol.

  7. March 5, 2010 4:28 am

    Hi Eva,

I am something of a lurker too and a fairly new book blogger. I have to say your site is one of my very favourite reads in my blogroll!

    • March 5, 2010 3:20 pm

Thank you so much Rebecca! I’m off to visit your blog. :)

  8. March 5, 2010 5:47 am

just sent you a twitter request (@hcmurdoch)

  9. March 5, 2010 6:41 am

I now have to clean off my laptop after snorting coffee all over it! Thank you – you make me laugh, too. In a good way; you are such a bright light in blogosphereland.
I look forward to reading your nonfiction women’s history book review tomorrow.

    • March 5, 2010 3:21 pm

Thanks so much Care! You’re like the warm gushy center of the blogosphere. :D

  10. March 5, 2010 6:59 am

I’m not a new book blogger, and I think I’ve commented before, so I’m not *technically* a lurker, but I know I don’t comment on even a fraction of the posts I read, so I’m de-lurking myself anyways. Always nice to know who’s out there. :)

    • March 5, 2010 3:23 pm

I don’t comment on nearly all of the posts that I read either! It’s so hard to find time to do it all. :) But I’m glad you popped by this time!

  11. March 5, 2010 7:43 am

Hi Eva! My name is Jana and my book blog is called Will Work for Books. Come and have a look! Thanks for the template :)

    I’m on twitter as @jfaustus — I’ll send you a request.

Looking forward to your nonfiction post!

    • March 5, 2010 3:26 pm

Hi Jana-nice to meet you! :) Will definitely come look at your blog and now I’m following you on Twitter as well!

  12. March 5, 2010 8:32 am

I’ve never used Twitter – I’m too long-winded and I’m no good at short snappy comments! but I can understand the creepy factor. I recently had a creepy message from someone on Goodreads who’s going ’round befriending all the “pretty” women and keeps talking about “waiting” – do I put it down to poor English? If he’s really a visiting academic in California from the Middle East, I can’t help thinking he knows exactly what he’s doing!

I have my main blog and my book review blog, which is Giraffe Days, both of which you’re welcome to visit. Are you on Goodreads? I have picked up so many good new books thanks to your blog, books I’d never heard of before!

    • March 5, 2010 3:29 pm

Hi Shannon! Eek to that Goodreads guy! I’ll be sure to check out your blog (what a fun name!), and thanks for the compliments. :) I think I might have a Goodreads account from forever ago, but I never update it. Or a Shelfari account? I can’t remember. I’m glad my blog’s introducing you to new books. :D

Twitter regularly drives me crazy with the character limit…as my blog shows, I’m not exactly succinct myself. hehe I just end up doing LOTS of tweets!

  13. March 5, 2010 10:18 am

You’re adorable as usual. I have a love-hate relationship with Twitter and have often considered just limiting it to fellow book-bloggers and friends. Of which, of course, you would be one!

    • March 5, 2010 3:30 pm

Thanks Daphne! :D It was pretty easy to limit my Twitter account, and I’m MUCH happier now knowing only book bloggers are following me, and that everyone following me I follow too. :)

I think I’ve commented here before, but I’m commenting again because I actually just linked to A Striped Armchair in my post on Bookwanderer today! I’ve joined the Women Unbound Challenge, in part because of all the great books you had on your reading list for it. :)

    • March 5, 2010 3:30 pm

Thanks Taryn! :D I’m loving the Women Unbound Challenge, and I hope that you will too!

  15. March 5, 2010 11:00 am

Ah, that’s what happened. I knew my ‘following’ number had dropped by one.

I’ve commented here before, but I know it’s been a while. So, hi! I’ll be back again :)

    • March 5, 2010 3:33 pm

Sorry Alita! I’m following you now though. :)

  16. March 5, 2010 11:03 am

I have been meaning to give twitter a try. If I’m too busy to start up an account, I don’t know if I’ll have time to keep up with it, LOL! When I do, I’ll let you know — I might even have questions to ask because I don’t want random people following me; I’d want it to be a book blogger focus.

    • March 5, 2010 3:34 pm

lol! Definitely e-mail me any questions when you do. It was really easy to switch to protected. :) And once you have an account, I’ll tweet about it so everyone will know!

  17. March 5, 2010 11:15 am

Hi Eva, You probably already know me, but I don’t comment on your blog nearly enough! I enjoy all your posts and your book recommendations (and your gushing).

By the way, I just finished Face, a poetry collection by Sherman Alexie last night, and I know he’s one of your favorite authors so I’d be interested to know your thoughts if you’ve seen the book. I just reviewed it and I’d recommend it, but with a few reservations. (Accidental pun, oops.)

    • March 5, 2010 3:35 pm

Thanks so much Marieke! :) Popping over to check out your Alexie post and lol @ the pun.

  18. March 5, 2010 1:50 pm

    Hi Eva!

I love reading your blog, though I don’t post very often. I’ve just sent you a request for Twitter (@melissawaldron). Can’t wait to see your Tweets.

    • March 5, 2010 3:36 pm

Thanks so much Melissa! :) I’m following you on Twitter now. :) My tweets tend to be VERY dull though, just warning you!

  19. March 5, 2010 2:24 pm

I’ll never understand why people who don’t know me want me to add them to my Twitter, Facebook, IM accounts. In a word – NO. It’s just too creepy!

I’ll add you over at Twitter, if that’s okay.

    cjh

    • March 5, 2010 3:36 pm

Yeah…I get that other people use Twitter to try to get lots of followers, but I don’t want that! Of course it’s ok for you to add me; now I’m following you too. :)

Hi Eva! My name is Christa although on my blog I am just “she” for now because we are keeping it anonymous for the most part and my book/pop culture blog is called Meet Cute named after a phrase I learned about in the movie “The Holiday”. It’s not just my blog either..I share it with my boyfriend so that we can give a male/female perspective on things. Also I don’t read some of the books he reads and vice versa! I am an old time blogger but this blog is fairly new and I’m just getting it out there which I know that you have visited it before because of your comments and I thank you!

    • March 5, 2010 3:38 pm

Hi Christa! :) The Holiday is such a fun movie, isn’t it?! I think it’s so neat that you and your boyfriend are doing a blog together, especially since most book bloggers are women. :)

“The Holiday” is probably one of my favorite movies to watch around Christmas time. I love Kate Winslet’s character. :o)

      • March 10, 2010 4:20 am

Me too! And the focus on old Hollywood. *sigh*

  21. March 5, 2010 3:58 pm

    Hey Eva,

I’m still pretty new to the book blogging world but I’m liking it so far. Your blog is one of my favorites—I’ve been inspired to read (a lot) more!

    • March 6, 2010 6:48 am

Hi Manu! Thanks for such a kind compliment. :) Welcome to book blogging! Isn’t it fun?

  22. March 5, 2010 10:46 pm

    Hi Eva,

I totally agree with you about Twitter. I have to ‘clean’ up my Twitter account once a month, purging of little porn bots and other assorted nasties. I also purge it of mindless Tweeters who want to tell me that they’re spreading peanut butter on toast, and then 30 seconds later, stirring their coffee.

One the subject of new book blogs, I’ve been blogging on books for about 2 months (although blogging on anthropology, yoga and Central Australia for about 4 years on various platforms.

I’m going to be running some givaways promoting Central Austrlian authors in May (open to international readers) and I would also like to get together an Australian book bloggers convention next year (yes, as Australia is the highest consumer of books per capita in the world along with Iceland, there are lots of Aussie book bloggers). So any suggestions, help or well any advice at all would be great!

    cheers

    • March 6, 2010 6:50 am

I know that there are many of you Aussie book bloggers! I’m more into the book bit of book blogging than the blogging bit, so I’m afraid I don’t have any advice for conventions or giveaways! There are other bloggers who focus on that, but I’m always rather oblivious. lol

  23. March 6, 2010 9:18 am

I don’t think you deleted me by mistake (or on purpose LOL :)))) . It would be creepy to have random people retweet your tweets.

    • March 8, 2010 10:44 pm

LOL Nope-didn’t delete you! Otherwise I would have sent you a shamefaced e-mail. ;)

  24. March 6, 2010 3:05 pm

Hmm, I suppose I’m a quasi-lurker? Although I lurk much less now thanks to Woolf in Winter :) I feel the same way about unprotected twitter I’m going to follow you now as well (victoriad702) and hopefully de-lurk myself more often! -Victoria

    • March 8, 2010 10:45 pm

Thanks for following me! :) And for commenting-shall visit your blog!

  25. March 7, 2010 1:39 pm

I’m pretty sure I’ve commented before. I’m not a lurker, I just feel dumb commenting unless I have something intelligent to say! And that doesn’t happen very often! :)

    • March 8, 2010 10:45 pm

I completely sympathise! I have blogs where I never really comment, because I don’t feel I have any constructive to add. I’m glad you popped by, though, so I can visit your blog. :)

  26. March 14, 2010 11:06 pm

Hi, Eva! Thanks for the encouragement to quit lurking. I started my own blog (The Treacle Well) about a week ago, and I’ve been reading through yours for inspiration. I’m humbled by your prolific reading and your insightful remarks. I still haven’t come around to Twitter yet, but I’ll be sure to follow you there, too, if I do.

    Best,
    Megan
