Dewey’s Read-a-Thon 5: By the Numbers

October 26, 2009

Wow; this read-a-thon was utterly crazy for me. I had something I needed to be doing every single minute of those twenty-four hours, and once it was over, I was so keyed up, I ended up staying up for another 11 hours (don’t ask! my body’s weird, lol). But once I went to bed, I stayed there (see the number 17 on this list), hehe. So here is this round of Dewey’s Read-a-Thon by the numbers…

1,000,000: conservative estimate of how many random letters I typed for word verification so I could leave comments on various blogger and livejournal blogs ;)

2,666: Visits on Saturday and Sunday

2,014: Pages I read

376: Readers on the Mr. Linky sign up form; I visited each of their links twice (sometimes, the link was odd, or I couldn’t comment, so I’m not sure how many actual comments I left…I’d guess around 700-ish)

333: Comments left on my read-a-thon posts

27: Pictures I included in various read-a-thon posts

26: Posts I published on my blog during read-a-thon

24: hours I wished Dewey was here, so she could see how big this thing has gotten

22: Mini-challenges participated in

17: Hours slept once I finally fell asleep at 5 pm yesterday

12: Books completed (of which 4 were graphic novels)

11: Glasses of Water Drunk (to balance out caffeine)

7.5: Hours spent cheerleading

6: Perky music videos I posted on official site during my time as host

5: Mugs of Tea

4: Vlogs Recorded and Published

2: Cans of Pepsi

1: Walk Gone On

0: Snowflakes! Although it did snow on Friday and Sunday, the read-a-thon itself turned out to be a gorgeous day, so I could read outside!

lol @ word verification count! Those things were almost the death of me ;)

Great job host & wrangling us cheerleaders. I’m already looking forward to the next read-a-thon.

Wow, Eva, you do have superpowers! Congrats on all this readathoning! I’m off to watch your Russian vlog… (even though I won’t be able to understand a word of it. I might just have to get my father-in-law to watch it and translate it for me!)

  3. October 26, 2009 12:04 pm

OMG…These numbers are impressive. This was so so much fun; thanks again

  4. October 26, 2009 12:10 pm

wow, you are amazing! I agree with the random letters thing…when I was cheering at the end it would take me 3 tires to get some of them right…I just couldn’t understand the letters I was so tired ;-)

What a huge success! I know Dewey is smiling.

  6. October 26, 2009 12:33 pm

You all did a great job with the read-a-thon! I did not participate officially, but I sure did have a lot of fun reading when I could and visiting other bloggers that were participating. I’m hoping to join next time and have been thinking about joining in the cheerleading. Again, GREAT JOB!

12 books?! Wow! How awesome. I can’t believe you’ve had snow already! I haven’t even had to wear a jacket but one or two days so far. I wish we got more snow ;)

  15. October 26, 2009 3:27 pm

You are wonder woman, I swear!

  16. October 26, 2009 5:21 pm

My favorite number is 17 hours of sleep!! You needed that so bad :p I was starting to worry about you over here Eva :p You did entirely too much, but I guess that if your body lets you do it, then do it!! Go you! You did absolutely amazing!!

  17. October 26, 2009 5:23 pm

Thank you for helping to host the read-a-thon. What would we have done without you? I’m glad you slept so long. You did a great job.

  18. October 26, 2009 5:51 pm

These numbers are insane! But totally impressive! I hope at least 75% of the people turn off their word verification!!!

I wasn’t lucky enough to be blogging when Dewey was around, but the fact that I know a little of her story and was able to participate in a bit of her legacy is so telling about the influence she has on the book blogging community.

I had a wonderful time with the Read-A-Thon. Thank you for all your hard work. It was a fun and exciting and well-organized event and I hope you feel your hard work was worth it!

I wanted to stop by and say thank you for all your hard work before, during, and after the Read-A-Thon. It was an amazing event in every way. I can only imagine what went on behind the scenes for months to pull this whole thing off. You are to be congratulated for it’s success.

I participated for only a couple of hours as a cheerleader but that was very rewarding. I know how much it means to have people stop by and urge you to keep going so I wanted to do the same. Thanks for your emails and all the organization you did to keep that going.

Thank you and may some special blessings come your way.

  20. October 26, 2009 6:18 pm

You are my hero!! 12 books plus hosting plus leading the cheerleaders PLUS visiting all the readers’ sites twice? I’m so impressed I’m all but speechless. Congratulations!

  21. October 26, 2009 9:30 pm

    Wow, you’re like a Read-a-Thon superwoman :)

  22. October 27, 2009 6:26 am

I couldn’t manage those numbers in an entire week, let alone in one day. I’m soooooo NOT kidding! You’re my rocking little super dynamo role model, Eva! :D

  23. October 27, 2009 6:39 am

    ALWAYS inspiring ALL WAYS

  24. October 27, 2009 7:21 am

great wrap-up and congrats on all those accomplishments.

  25. October 27, 2009 8:25 am

Wow, you did great! I stayed up 19 hours and I can’t imagine going 11 more after the 24.

  26. October 27, 2009 8:55 am

Great numbers – from zero to one million! Glad you had good weather (and a great attitude!) for the readathon.

  27. October 27, 2009 11:23 am

You are SO awesome! I can’t believe how many pages you read while doing all that other stuff!!!

  28. October 27, 2009 11:34 am

I’m with the others that say you have super powers! sounds great.

I’m amazed that people didn’t just turn off word verification! That would be a big deterrent for me to leave comments if i were on a marathon trying to leave as many as possible!

Great job, and I’m glad you could get all rested up after the fact!

  29. October 27, 2009 5:54 pm

    Lola, aww-thank you!

Chris, I knew once I passed out, I wouldn’t wake up for quite awhile. ;) I paid for it yesterday, w/ my fibro, but by today (Tues.), it’s pretty much calmed down.

Thank you for commenting! For a long while, my health precluded me replying to everyone. Yet I missed the conversation, so I'm now making an effort to reply again. It might take a few days though, and there will be times when I simply can't. Regardless, I always read and value what you say.
