Wishbone!

March 24, 2009

I’ve mentioned before how I loved Wishbone, the PBS TV series, when I was little. Well, as with everything else on the planet, you can find it on Youtube! I’ve included a video of the theme song (which I can still sing along with perfectly) and a cute little behind-the-scenes one (it’s so 90s!). You can also watch full episodes, which is awesome. :D

“WISHBONE”

What are you favourite book-related TV shows?

Oh my, how you just made me smile thinking about Wishbone! Despite the fact that I was looooong past kid-hood when Wishbone was out, I still absolutely adored it!

Wow, I loved Wishbone. I was just thinking about the show yesterday, actually, after reading a review of Treasure Island, since I only know that book from watching the version on Wishbone.

EVA! I LOVED WISHBONE! I STILL LOVE WISHBONE. I’m at work right now so I can’t see these videos but holy smokes, Wishbone is fantastic. I can’t wait to watch these. I need to find out if they sell them on DVD so that when I have kids I can pop one in when I get dinner ready.

Thanks for this walk down memory lane.

    AAAHHH!!!

I grew up on Wishbone. In fact, my parents’ house is a short drive away from the studio where the show is filmed and an even shorter drive away from the home of one of the producers. And since Wishbone was a local product, our teachers screened the show quite frequently during free periods. And when I came home, I’d watch it on PBS!

Thanks so much for reminding me about this little gem from childhood. :)

Thats so cute! I loved this show when I was younger.

I love Wishbone, too! We even had a little stuffed version of him around here at one point…I’m going to go see if I can fine him. Thanks for the YouTube, it’s a nice trip down memory lane :)

I hated Wishbone when I was little. I thought it was boring. PBS showed the episodes for several months last year and I was subject to watching them because my sister did-religiously! It’s cool how a show can trick little kids into learning about some classic literature :P

I have not heard of Wishbone before – maybe it wasn’t on in Australia?? My favourite TV show of a book when I was a child was The Famous Five Series by Enid Blyton – I used to think they were so cool!

    I loved Wishbone!

Oh my gosh. I loved Wishbone. Ever since seeing it I wanted to own a wishbone dog. Too bad I’m not home enough to have one!

I watched Wishbone when I was entirely too old for it, but I loved it so much. I’m gonna have to go tubesurf a little bit and talk a stroll down memory lane.

That’s so weird. I was just thinking about Wishbone yesterday. I caught myself humming the theme song. :) My friends and I all watched it when we were ten or eleven (which is probably a little too old for it, but oh well). Later, in university, my Classical Mythology prof was so horrified that some of my classmates had never seen Wishbone that she altered the syllabus so we could watch the Wishbone version of THE ODYSSEY. It was awesome.

Our PBS station is showing Wishbone on Saturday mornings now! My husband discovered it when he was staying home with our oldest when he was a baby (12 years ago!). Such a great show.

My book-related TV show as a kid was Little House on the Prairie. I watched it every single Monday night for years.

I actually remember this show. Do you remember Ghost Writer? I loved that one and Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. Thanks for a taste of nostalgia!

Oh my gosh, I loved this show! I even have a stuffed Wishbone that came with two out fits.

I had never heard of this show until college when my roommate had a poster on the wall. I see it when I’m going through channels every once in a while. I think my kids have seen it once. I don’t think I’ve ever watched in more than just a background thing.

Thank you so much for posting this. I LOVE Wishbone, too! I wonder if they’ll put out a DVD or something. I’d love to show this to my kids someday.

    Debi, I still love it!

Kim, there are so many books that I first knew from Wishbone. :D

Nik, and you have high speed internet now!! So you can WATCH EPISODES on YOUTUBE!! They do have some Wishbone DVDs, because my mom sent me one in a care package my freshman year of college. ;)

Lily, that’s so neat it was local!

Bella, I totally wanted a Wishbone when I was little!

Gentle Reader, what an awesome stuffed animal. :D My best friend had a Jack Russell Terrier (the same type of dog as Wishbone), and even though she was a girl named Pepper, sometimes I called her Wishbone anyway. ;)

Sarah, that’s tragic! Wishbone didn’t trick me, lol, I loved the classic lit. :D But I guess all little kids are little!

Karen, it was definitely an American thing; but you can watch it now on YouTube.

    Nancy, yay!

    Christina, me too! hehe

Trish, I’ve been watching episodes on YouTube while I cook, even though I’m too old for it. lol

Memory, what an awesome professor! I remember that episode-it was awesome. :)

Ali, our PBS station does too! I never watched Little House on the Praire, but I loved the books.

Michelle, I remember Ghost Writer! It wasn’t one of my favourites (I had limited TV time), but it was fun!

Christia, a stuffed Wishbone with OUTFITS?! That’s the coolest thing ever!

    Natasha, I bet you’d enjoy it. :D

Jessica, they do have some DVDs-not enough though!
