Library Loot: February 4-10, 2009

February 4, 2009

library-lootLibrary Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by myself and Alessandra that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

Here’s what I got from the library this week:
More loot!
From left to right: Nation by Terry Pratchett (because I’ve heard a lot of great things about it), Knitting Lingerie Style by Joan McGowan-Michael(the patterns in here are gorgeous), The Oxford Project by Stephen Bloom (because of Citizen Reader’s review)

So it was another restrained week for me (although I lugged two full bags to return books!)…but next week things will probably get a little crazy again. ;)

Want to play along?

Woooooooot! You’ve got Nation, your long wait is over! Can’t wait to here what you think of it!

  2. February 4, 2009 8:23 am

The Oxford Project looks really interesting. But I already went and checked…and our library doesn’t have it. :( Hope you enjoy!

  3. February 4, 2009 8:32 am

I want to see what you knit after reading Knitting Lingerie Style.

  4. February 4, 2009 10:39 am

I read the review of The Oxford Project, very interesting. Knit lingerie? As in wool and needles? Oh my. I too want to see what you make after reading it-modeling it is optional. Happy reading.

  5. February 4, 2009 11:33 am

I’ve heard lots of good about Nation, too, and I’ve never read any Terry Pratchett. (Shame on me.) Hope you enjoy it!

I bet knitted lingerie would feel really nice. I just put my post up here:

The Oxford Project! I had almost forgotten about that book! The Seattle Times did a write up about it a while ago and I added it to my mental TBR list – and forgot! :( Thank for the reminder, Eva!

Love the cover of the knitting book, can’t wait to see what you create from that book ;)

  9. February 4, 2009 2:20 pm

Knitted lingerie! Looks like an interesting book (I wish I could knit). The Oxford Project looks good, too – I’m going to check to see if my library has that one.

  10. February 4, 2009 2:32 pm

The Oxford Project is also on my tbr list! I think I’m waiting for it from the library. Not like I would get it read anytime soon . . . I’m looking forward to your review of it.

Ooh have fun with the Knitting Lingerie. I’ve always admired that, but my BF’s grandma knits sooooo it might not be the best lingerie for me! hahaha

  12. February 4, 2009 4:26 pm

Only three books from the library doesn’t seem like you.. lol! I only got three too. :)

  13. February 4, 2009 5:52 pm

Looks like you picked up some good ones. I haven’t gone to the library this week *gasp* because I have too many checked out already. I might stop in tomorrow though just to browse. LOL!

  14. February 4, 2009 6:47 pm

It’s been such a long time since I’ve read a Terry Pratchett book – I look forward to hearing about what you think of Nation.

  15. February 4, 2009 7:04 pm

    You got Nation!!! Yay!

  16. February 4, 2009 7:06 pm

Such fun to read/look at everyone’s lists. But dangerous – I’m finding books to look for on my next trip… Thanks for doing this.

  17. February 4, 2009 7:37 pm

I have way too much out at the moment as well.

  18. February 4, 2009 7:45 pm

I was going to play along this week. I went to the main library in San Luis Obispo on Monday, ready to stock up on audiobooks. And they were closed!!!

Once again, I’m boycotting my library. Well, not intentionally. I wouldn’t boycott them if they were actually open.

  19. February 4, 2009 9:15 pm

Ooo I’ve been wanting to take a look at The Oxford Project. Knitted lingerie … that’s different. I wonder if there’s a crochet one too :P

  20. February 4, 2009 11:30 pm

I own Nation and I still haven’t read it. Soon…someday soon! I forgot about the Oxford Project book. I will have to see if my library has that.

  21. February 4, 2009 11:34 pm

Ooh, I want to read Nation! I saw two versions the other day, so I might want to get the cheaper one. ;P

  22. February 5, 2009 12:05 am

I’ll be joining in with this just as soon as I can get to the library. At the moment we’re a bit snowed in and although we can get out of the house we can’t get out of the road and it’s too far to walk to the library. I’m feeling deprived!!

  23. February 5, 2009 8:06 am

I have heard a lot about Terry Pratchett, but I have never read any of his books. One of my friends kindly lent me two of his books, so I look forward to reading them. Hope you enjoy yours too!

  24. February 5, 2009 8:35 am

I have to hurry up and start Nation. Have to! It’s leering at me.

OOh, I want that knitting book! And the Oxford Project looks good too,

  26. February 6, 2009 3:13 am

    Bart, I’m excited!

Debi, awww-I’m sorry. Maybe you can suggest they order it? It weighs like five thousand pounds, lol.

Bermuda Onion, there are a ton of tempting patterns, but I’m not sure my skills are up to it yet! We’ll see. :)

Sandra, some of the patterns are lingerie (but they have silk yarn as well as wool, fyi), others are shirts or skirts that are lingerie-inspired.

Melissa, I haven’t read a lot of Terry Pratchett. Other than Good Omens, which he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman, I’ve only read the Wee Free Men series (three books so far).

Darlene, I’m so tempted to make some cashmere lingerie, like Victoria’s Secret had at Christmas! And thanks for playing along. :)

    Lena, no problem!

    Erika, why thank you. ;)

Belle, I’m a newbie knitter myself, so I’m hoping the patterns aren’t tooo complicated.

Jeska, it’s a fast read, because the photos are as important as the text. It is addicting, though, I read it cover-to-cover without noticing time passing.

Monnibo, lol! There are shirt patterns in the book too! :D

    Satci, great-thanks for playing!

Claire, lol-you’re right. Next week’s post will make up for this week’s wimpiness! hehe

    Samantha, lol!

Olduvai, I haven’t read much Pratchett, just his Wee Free Men children’s/YA series.

    Chris, I’m so excited!

Margaret, my wish list gets longer each time I see all the participants too!

Susan, hehe-I figure they’re library books. What’s going to happen if I don’t finish them all?

SoftDrink, awww-I’m sorry. That’d make me so annoyed!

Joanne, the lingerie is actually really pretty, and the several of the shirts are just awesome. :D

Alyce, isn’t it funny how the books we own get pushed to the bottom of the list?

Melody, I always go with the cheaper one! The one time I regretted it was when I bought the mass market paperback of Susanna Clarke’s novel…the writing is unbelievably tiny.

BooksPlease, I hope the snow plow comes soon!

    Vivienne, thanks. :)

Andi, you do! you do! We can do a co-read-along. ;)

Fleurfisher, I get knitting books from the library because my parents have a scanner/printer…hehe.

I managed to get to the library yesterday. My post is at http://www.booksplease.org/2009/02/06/library-loot/

I liked Nation a lot. Glad other people are excited about it. (Here’s a piece I wrote on my blog about it – including MILD SPOILERS: http://tuulenhaiven.wordpress.com/2009/01/07/nation-by-terry-pratchett/ ) Love the idea of “library loot”. I often take outrageous stacks of books home…

I just posted mine. I don’t know about that Knitted Lingerie book. To me lingerie should be smooth and silky, not knitted. Let us know how it goes. ;)

  30. February 6, 2009 11:08 am

Knitting lingerie? Do people DO such things?

  31. February 6, 2009 2:19 pm

That knitting lingerie caught my eye, but after the interesting results of my project for Dewey’s Knit-a-Long, I’m not sure I’m confident enough to try anything more than a rectangle!

  32. February 9, 2009 4:13 am

    BooksPlease, great!

    Tuulenhaiven, thanks for the link!

Callista, the book has outerwear patterns too. ;)

Raych, hehe-see my response to Callista. But they make silk yarn! My mom’s response was “well, you’ll line it, right?” hehe

Dawn, the way I look at it (as a newbie knitter), at least lingerie projects are small! I’m an instant gratification girl. ;)
