Library Loot: January 21-27
Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by myself and Alessandra that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. Here’s what I got from the library this week:
Top Row: Vegan Lunch Box by Jennifer McCann (to increase my vegan recipes), From a Whisper to a Scream by Charles de Lint (because I’m reading the Newford books in order and this is next on the list!), The Fountains of Paradise by Arthur C. Clarke (for the Sci-Fi Experience)
Bottom Row: The Innkeeper’s Song by Peter Beagle (because he’s a new favourite author), Vintage Knits by Sarah Dallas (to remind myself why I’m learning to knit), Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card (for the Sci-Fi Experience; although me reading Card does not mean I agree with his anti-homosexuality statements-I vehemently disagree)
Well that’s it for me this week-I’m keeping it light since I’m still working through books from the last two weeks!

Ender’s Games is one of my son’s favorite books. I’d love to see what’s in Vegan Lunch Box.
I have a copy of Ender’s Game that I’ve been meaning to read for months. Vintage Knits looks good, and I’d love to hear some of the recipes from the Vegan Lunch Box, too.
That is a light week for you…that will only last you for a long afternoon, won’t it? ;)

From A Whisper to a Scream is supposed to be really good, yet really disturbing. It’s one of the horror books that he originally wrote under the pen name of Samuel Key. Can’t wait to see what you think of it!
I was surprised when the stuff got out about OSC’s views on homosexuality. He released a statement reputing most of it, or reframing it, but I was still surprised. If you read The Homecoming series or Songmaster, you’ll see that he has respect for his gay characters. The gay character in Homecoming is probably the respectable character in the novel. And while I’ve yet to read Songmaster, it centers around a gay character as well. I’m guessing some of those views are just ingrained, which is sad, due to his strict mormon background.
Six books is light?! But they do all look interesting!
Aw, Card was a good writer (I like his earlier stuff, like Ender), even if he’s a bit wacky now.
I keep meaning to read Ender’s Game! I look forward to your review! As for that being a “light” load…. I’m not so sure!
Do you ever finish all the books you borrow? He he. I usually don’t. There might be one or two that I return without reading. :) I’m looking forward to your Ender’s Game review. A friend keeps recommending it to me but I keep “forgetting” to pick it up.
I have a soft spot for Peter Beagle. I re-read The Last Unicorn every four or five years. I also loved A Fine and Private Place though I’ve not re-read it for decades now. Man, I’m old.

I adored Ender’s Game and ended up reading the whole Ender’s series (there’s three others that follow). I think it was the only sci-fi series that I got into/enjoyed. I met him a couple of years ago, six or seven (?), and he seemed pretty witty. I didn’t realize that he got wacky about homosexuality or other political views? Outrageous.

Ender’s Game rocks!! I haven’t been to the library this week so I can’t play but I’m picking some stuff up on Saturday!!

I don’t generally read Sci-Fi, but a friend loaned me Ender’s Game saying it was one of her favorite books. So, I started reading it, and then I totally could not put it down because it was such a page-turner. I did think there was some weird pseudo-religious stuff at the end that kind of blew, but the bulk of the book and the main story are VERY good. Enjoy!

I don’t think that De Lint book is set in Newford. I got all excited for a moment when I saw that thinking that I’d missed something. I’m pretty sure that one is completely different from his usual urban fantasy which is kind of why it was first punlished under another name.
However, the mystery/horror books are the few de Lint books that I haven’t yet read so please let us know if they are worth picking up.

I love to get cookbooks from the library. That way I can tell if it’s a winner or loser before buying.
