Weekly Geeks: What It Means to Be One

January 20, 2009

weeklygeeksI’m so excited to see that Weekly Geeks is back and running, although it’s a bittersweet excitement. I didn’t participate in last week’s topic, simply because I couldn’t narrow down my favourite book bloggers to any kind of manageable level and I didn’t want anyone to feel left out; for the same reason, I won’t be passing on awards this year.

Anyway, this week’s topic is to answer:

For those who have been with the group, either from the start or joined within recent months, what does being a member mean to you? What do you enjoy about the group? What are some of your more memorable Weekly Geeks that we might could do again? What could be improved as we continue the legacy that Dewey gave us?

I’ve been with Weekly Geeks since the second activity, which I blogged about at the end of this post, and although I didn’t do every single activity, I usually visited at least the posts that Dewey highlighted. For me, being a member meant supporting Dewey, connecting with other bloggers, and not having to come up with my own idea for at least one post a week. ;) I most enjoy how I find new bloggers who aren’t in my ‘circle’ and how they find me. My favourite Weekly Geeks from the past were: interviewing another Weekly Geeker about a book they’d read, taking a photo of something book-related, and making a reading list of an important social issue. I think all of these could be done again pretty easily.

As far as what could be done to further improve WG, I think it looks great! I loved Dewey’s round-up posts, so if one of the co-hosts has the time to do them, that’d be cool, but if not I think it’s great without it.

I second the idea to have the interview again. I missed that one and everyone seems to be mentioning that theme as a favorite.

The interview was my favourite Weekly Geek, too :)

Thanks for mentioning the round-up posts. I think we talked about doing it but nobody took it on. I’ll bring it up with the WG team again and see if we can get that going.

Care, it was a fun one. :)

Maree, it seems to be everyone’s favourites!

Ali, don’t take it as a criticism. :)

    Elizabeth, I still miss Dewey!

I also enjoyed Dewey’e wrap up posts where some of the Weekly Geeks were highlighted. That was very enjoyable, but I totally understand that all those taking care of WG now doesn’t have time for that. They do a great job already I think.

Confuzzled, hopefully they’ll do it again!

Lousie, I think they do a great job already too. :)

    Ali, great!

Thank you for commenting! For a long while, my health precluded me replying to everyone. Yet I missed the conversation, so I'm now making an effort to reply again. It might take a few days though, and there will be times when I simply can't. Regardless, I always read and value what you say.
