Digging to America (Q&A)

August 20, 2008

Bybee says: I hope you’ll write a review of Digging to America because of The Korean Connection, of course!

I’m not up for writing a full review, but I will share my brief thoughts! I’ve never read Anne Tyler before, and I expected to absolutely love this. Instead, I just liked it. I thought the characters were all interesting, but the whole book felt more like a laboratory study on character than a living, breathing story. It was just missing that spark, if that makes sense!

That totally makes sense! Like when you just know that something is not right, or something is missing.

I agree. It wasn’t one of her really outstanding ones. But I still enjoyed it.

I like Anne Tyler, but I feel this way about most of her things that I’ve read. Hope you’re loving Monterey.

It makes sense… I haven’t read any Tyler books in forever. I always thought of them as comfort books in a way… Do you think you’ll try another?

Thank you for commenting! For a long while, my health precluded me replying to everyone. Yet I missed the conversation, so I'm now making an effort to reply again. It might take a few days though, and there will be times when I simply can't. Regardless, I always read and value what you say.
