A Striped Armchair

Books and Stories Read 2009

Usually, I would just list all of the books I’ve read directly on this page. But this year, I’ve also decided to read individual short stories, and I’d like to record that as well. And while at first I tried just listing the books and short stories together, pretty soon I decided I preferred seperate lists. So, to see what I’ve read this year, just follow the links below! (Note: in my list of short stories read, I only include ones that *aren’t* in a complete book I’ve read. So if I read a short story collection or anthology, it will be under ‘books read,’ while the individual stories will not be under ’short stories read.’ I did that to prevent double-listing.)

Hi,

My name is Chris Tusa, and my novel, Dirty Little Angels, is due out
March 1st from the University if West Alabama. I am writing because I
was hoping you’d be willing to consider my novel for inclusion in your
blog (or for possible review). I’ve provided a brief summary below:

Set in the slums of New Orleans, among clusters of crack houses and
abandoned buildings, Dirty Little Angels is the story of sixteen year
old Hailey Trosclair. When the Trosclair family suffers a string of
financial hardships and a miscarriage, Hailey finds herself looking to
God to save her family. When her prayers go unanswered, Hailey puts her
faith in Moses Watkins, a failed preacher and ex-con. Fascinated by
Moses’s lopsided view of religion, Hailey, and her brother Cyrus, begin
spending time down at an abandoned bank that Moses plans to convert
into a drive-through church. Gradually, though, Moses’s twisted
religious beliefs become increasingly more violent, and Hailey and
Cyrus soon find themselves trapped in a world of danger and fear from
which there may be no escape.

If you’re interested, you can read the first chapter at my website:

Thanks so much,
