Yes, Virginia
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Eva, this picture is so precious. Thanks so much for sharing it! A very Merry Christmas to you. Looks like we may get a wet day tomorrow, but we’ll take the rain won’t we? Hope the rest of 2011 is wonderful for you and your family and I wish you the same for 2012. Hugs!
I love this, I love reading it no matter how many times I’ve read it before. Thank you.
All the best for the season, and throughout the coming year to you and yours.
Such a wonderful photo…especially with the added sentiment :) Have a wonderful Christmas!
I do love this letter, although I don’t think I’ve read it for some years. Thank you for sharing and Merry Christmas!
Have a lovely Holiday, Eva–hope it’s filled with family and many good books!
Have a wonderful Christmas.
I got this (in child’s picture book form) from the library last week – a wonderful tale :)
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Eva! :)
I love this letter; it makes me feel sappy every time I read it :) I found a lovely image of the original letter in Virginia’s handwriting that I posted last Christmas, if you’re interested — http://fourrooms.ca/2010/12/yes-virginia-there-is-a-santa-claus/
