Ok, with my current challenges I have to complete 21 books by the end of the year. And 8 by January and another 4 by February. But I don’t care that my reaidng has slumped considerably since starting grad school; there’s no way I can forswear challenges. I just love them: the whole process of researching books to read, finding out how to get my hands on them, making a final list, crossing books off the list as I read them…I really like lists. Not to mention reading all the other participants’ reviews! And I don’t worry too much if at the end of the day I haven’t quite finished all the books;I always learn about mroe incredible-sounding books.
With that spirit, here are the challenges I’m eyeing for 2009…
Orbis Terrarum
Lost in Translation
What’s in a Name?
The Well-Seasoned Reader
Exploration: Latin America
9 Books for ‘09
100 Shots of Short
Tell me: what challenges for next year have caught your eye? I want to hear about them all!
I’m hosting the Art History Challenge at http://www.arthistoryreadingchallenge.blogspot.com – check it out!
Is it tacky of me to remind you how easy, fun, and satisfying the Science-Book Challenge for 2008 was, and point out that I’ve put up information about the 2009 Science-Book Challenge?
I’m liking the What’s in a Name, Latin America, probably the Orbis again.
Also, the Countdown challenge, and the Genre which I think is like the 9 in 09.
I completely agree about the lists! You’ve got the right attitude about challenges – making lists and planning is fun, but no stress, what gets done, gets done.
good to see you back again.
How nice to have you back!
I’m also thinking of doing the What’s in a Name – it was so fun last year. The other one I am doing for sure is Jeff’s Science Book Challenge (just posted about it).
There are so many others that look good, like the Support your Library one. I also like the making of lists and searching out books, even though my record of completion is not very high!
I’m signed up for 10 already, and there are a few more I know I’ll give in to. Has any one heard about a Chunkster Challenge for 2009 yet?
Lezlie
Just you wait. I’m in the midst of creating 3 of my own (make sure you leave room on your plate!).
Read Your Own Books Challenge and again the To Be Read Challenge. And now A to Z (I have chosen the author option on that). Still need to make my list and I think I will add the Orbis Terrarum, too.
Yep, you are addicted, but you’re not alone
I want to join less challenges next year, but I can’t give them up completely. I just can’t.
The ones I’m joining for sure are: What’s in a Name 2, my challenge with Rhinoa in which we each pick 5 books for the other to read, the Manga challenge she’s hosting, and the Lambda Award challenge.
The ones I’m tempted by: TBR lite challenge, Science Book Challenge, New Authors Challenge. I’m sure there are more I can’t remember at the moment.
I just want to avoid having too many going at the same time, because when I do I tend to feel overwhelmed. So I guess I’ll focus on about 4 and then maybe join more after I finish those.
Welcome back! So many very interesting challenges, even ones I’ve not seen before (I guess I’m still a newbie!).
I like your attitude toward them. They are so fun to plan.
Are you still going to host a nonfiction challenge that you hinted about a few months ago?
I’m a challenge addict too
I’m trying not to join too many next year but I have a feeling I’ll cave and join a bunch… So far it’s the Latin America challenge and the 9 for 09. I’m sure I’ll do Carl’s challenges and a few others. Have fun planning your challenges for next year!
There are some awesome challenges for the coming year but I am not joining any, at least not for the first half of the year. I’ve only completed one challenge in the last 6 months so I’m feeling a little challenge guilt.

I joined the well-seasoned reader challenge, and I’m feeling the pull of the president reading challenge.
