A Striped Armchair

So. Busy.

Posted by: Eva on: October 8, 2008

Wanna know how busy I am? I received The Graveyard Book on Monday and still haven’t cracked open the cover. Because I only have fifteen-twenty minutes of spare time whenever, and I know that if I start reading, I’m not going to stick to my schedule!

I’m hoping this weekend will be a little calmer, but I have another workshop (aka Friday, Saturday, Sunday class). I’m not sure I’m going to be able to do the read-a-thon. :( It’s like my profs suddenly all realised it’s grad school and they can assign us a ton more work!

Ok, I gotta go, but for those interested, I’ve now been on my second date and it also went swimmingly! He’s out of town from tomorrow through Sunday, but he wants to do something next week. :D

That sucks! I finished The Graveyard Book yesterday and I loved it!

I hope your schedule gets less hectic soon!

I know exactly what you mean – I have to practice such discipline not to open a book when I KNOW I only have a little bit of spare time. Otherwise, there goes another all-nighter and I’m so sorry for it in the morning (but not while I’m reading!).

Okay don’t work too hard! :) I certainly know what you mean. But graduate work usually permits a bit more flexibility?

:-) :-) :-) on date #2!

:-( :-( :-( on not doing the read-a-thon! Any idea how much I’ll miss you?!! The first read-a-thon is where I first “met” you, okay, more precisely, where I first “became in awe” of you. It just won’t be the same without you…

I’m glad things are going well, both with school and the boy! :-)

I know what you mean! I feel like I haven’t stopped.

Glad you date went well! All work and no play.. ;)

Glad things are going so well with O. Sounds like you’re having lots of fun with school, dating and books. And you’re in Monterey Bay – lucky, lucky girl!

I hope you got to go to one of the readings! They were selling autographed books for the same price.

It really is an amazing book. I hope things calm down for you. :)

It will be such a shame if you don’t manage to participate in the Read-a-thon :( Like Debi said, it won’t be quite the same without you.

I’m happy to hear the second date went so well :D

Booooo for massive amounts of homework, no reading time, and a neglected Graveyard Book!

But YAYYYY for successful second dates!

Yuck to no reading time. I actually just got the book last night (I got to go see him on his tour), but haven’t had a chance to crack the book either.

Glad the date went well!!! Yay!

Oh, no! Thanks for the readathon reminder!!! Hope your schedule calms down, soon. :)

Yay for a good second date! You sound so busy – hope things calm down a bit so you can dive into your book.

Shadow of the Silk Road by Colin Thubron
This is the first book I've read by Thurbon. I love his intellectual, distinctly British tone.
Country of My Skull by Antjie Krog
It's gotten a lot more depressing, but it's the kind of depressing that's necessary. Krog is a journalist and a poet, which I think explains the unusual style. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's effective.
Portrait of a Lady by Henry James (on CD)
I'm So Mad at Isabel right now. So mad. And annoyed with James; I just don't buy that she'd reject an awesome guy and then accept a horrid one. Hmph.
The Arabian Nights, trans. by Husain Haddawy and The Arabian Nights:a Companion by Robert Irwin
I've stalled on reading the Companion, since it's now full of literary criticism (not my favourite topic), but I'm still enjoying The Nights! I've only got 150 pages left.
Children of the Night ed. by Gloria Naylor
I lost this one for awhile! But I've found it, so I should get back into the stories soon. :)
