Addendum to Weekly Geeks

Posted by: Eva on: May 21, 2008

Kevin Bales and a the cover of his newest book, Ending Slavery.Kevin Bales, the author of Disposable People stopped by yesterday, and left a comment. I thought I’d pass the information on to you! First, Disposable People has a newer, 2005 edition out. Also, Bales published a book in September of last year called Ending Slavery: How We Free Today’s Slaves that’s garnered great reviews. Finally, there’s a website called Free the Slaves, which belongs to the largest American anti-slavery group. It’s a great website: very interactive and multimedia, and offers a bunch of information as well as suggestions for how to help.

I’ll be posting a review later, but for now, why not go check out the site?

Sarah also recommended Slave by Medne Nazar, an autiobiography of a Sudanese woman forced into slavery. And Heather has a review of Nobodies: she gave it a 9 out of 10 rating!

Thanks for the additional info, Eva. I requested Disposable People through our library system. I’m anxious to read it, but I’m sure the horrors it will reveal won’t make it an easy read.

How nice to have an author comment, and thanks for the extra info.

I have the book Slave on my TBR shelf and plan to read it soon.

Debi, no problem! I bet it’ll be a difficult read.

Emily, I thought it was nice to have an author comment too! Made me feel all warm and fuzzy. :)

Jaimie, can’t wait to read your review!
