Jumping Up and Down…

Posted by: Eva on: May 1, 2008

…and doing the I’m back dance!  I swear, the universe must have decided that March and April would be Eva’s Great Trial, lol.  First, my laptop needed more help than the computer people originally thought, and by the time it was ready for pick-up in Denver (where I don’t live), I had gotten really sick.  And my mom had a big project due, so she needed the only laptop in the house a lot.  And since I was sick, I was sleeping around sixteen hours a day (welcome to life with a chronic illness!).  But all of that’s behind us now…I’m currently typing on my laptop (how I’ve missed her), and I shall be catching up with blog-reading shortly.  I have been reading, but not nearly as much as before, because I’ve been working extra-hard on my Russian (I can’t believe I leave for grad school in about three months!).  This is a good thing, though, because maybe I’ll be able to catch up with my backlog of reviews.  Anyway, I’ll be updating my Books Read and Current Challenges pages today, and hopefully I’ll get another post up tonight.  I just wanted to let everyone know that regular blogging will resume now (my visitor count is down so low right now, it makes me sad).  To the giveaway winners: your books will be in the mail tomorrow.  Sorry about the long delay!  And I received another book from a BAFAB contest during my blogger silence period, Juxtabook was kind enough to send me Small Talk with All Change Here by Naomi Mitchison all the way from England! She explained in her beautiful card that Mitchison is a famous writer who lived to be over 100. She sounds just fascinating, and this book combings two memoirs: Small Talk, which is “memoiries of an Edwardian childhood within an extended family with homes in Oxford, Edinburgh, and the Scottish highlands,” and All Change Here, which looks at how “girlhood and marriage bring new freedoms, joys and conflicts to the story. The young woman’s skills as a writer, and the strong self knowledge which carried her through her unique life, begin to reveal themselves against the backdrop of the First World War. Yay for another book for the In Their Shoes Challenge!

In other news, I’ve decided to postpone my challenge: I have a really long post typed up all about it, and was going to run it this summer. But between preparing for grad school, a trip to NY for my grandparents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary, and moving across the country, I don’t think I’ll have the time to host it the way I want to. So, I might do it this winter, or next year.

I think that’s about it for now: I have 781 posts in my Google Reader for book blogs, which is pretty intimidating. But I’ve really missed you all, so if you find random comments on old posts, you’ll know why. :) I just hope that I haven’t been gone too long to stage a comeback, lol.

Eva, I’m so glad to see you back…I was getting seriously worried about you (that’s the mother hen in me speaking).

You certainly are going to be busy for the next few months – it makes me tired just thinking about it. Hope all goes smoothly, and I’ll be checking back to see what you’ve been reading.

Welcome back — you were missed!

WooHoo!! Welcome back! I think we were all getting worried about you! I’m glad you’re feeling better.

“Talk” to you soon!
Lezlie

Welcome back, Eva! I was beginning to worry as well. I’m sorry to hear you were ill :( But I’m glad you’re feeling better now, and I look forward to hearing all about what you’ve been reading.

Speaking of getting books in the mail – no Odd and the Frost Giants yet, I assume? I’m starting to get just a tiny little bit paranoid about the orders. But Andi and Chelsea don’t seem to have received theirs either, and it’d be too unlucky for all three to get lost. Let’s give it another week or so, and if it hasn’t arrived yet, let me know – I’ve ordered countless books from TheBookDepository, and the only time one did get lost, they were super nice about sending me another copy.

So happy (and relieved!) to hear from you!!! I, too, was really starting to get worried! I decided just this morning that I was going to wait until Monday, and then start asking around.

I’m really sorry to hear you were feeling so lousy…I hope that’s over with for a good long time!

You certainly were missed! Glad you’re back!

It’s so nice to see you! Welcome back and I hope you’re feeling better.

Hello Eva—
And welcome back. I have been visiting your blog daily since I began blogging myself on April 20th, because A Striped Armchair came so highly recommended from a good friend. But alas. No Eva. So today I can do a dance too. Hooray!
I have been pouring over some of your previous posts with great pleasure. I very much look forward to your future ones! Very best, TJ.

Welcome back!

I was wondering the other day what had happened to you, but I am glad to hear that you are feeling better now. =)

Welcome back! It’s no fun to be sick that is for sure. Hope you’re feeling better and have fun at the Anniversary party!

Welcome back, Eva! I was starting to have withdrawls …

It is SO good to hear from you Eva! I just thought about you the other night all of a sudden when I was at work and got worried sick because I realized that you hadn’t posted in so long! Glad to hear that you’re feeling better and that the computer is back! Doesn’t it suck having that out of commission? Welcome back :D

Doesn’t it make you all warm and fuzzy when your internet friends actually know you’ve gone MIA? Actually, I haven’t experienced that yet, but I imagine I would feel all warm and fuzzy coming back to a wonderful reception. Have fun looking through that long list of posts!

You have been missed Eva. Glad to have you back again.

So glad to see you . . . my post tomorrow was going to contain a “where’s eva?” query . . . I’m sorry you haven’t been well, but we’ll get your reader stats up quickly. Glad you’re back.

Welcome back and no worries about being gone. Life happens sometimes, what else can one do about it?

YOU’RE BACK!!! Every day or so, I would check…..I was getting really worried. It’s been so hard for you, you have my sympathy. It’s been a long winter, hasn’t it? I’m very happy you have the laptop back, and are connected again, and well enough to post again! Welcome back, Eva!!!

Eloise, thanks!

Susan, aww-thanks!! It’s definitely been a very long winter. Hopefully that’ll change soon.

Of course, I’m happy to have you back too. Duh. :D

But if you need advice on how to keep up/catch up on all those blog posts, ask Natasha at Maw Books…well, I guess you could ask me ’cause I asked her and use her strategy. Anyhoo, so glad to be reading your posts again.
