Much Better!

Stephanie’s Awesome Giveaway PackageComing home from B&N with my niece today (where I did buy a book, but it doesn’t count, because it’s a U.S. History primer to help me study for the Foreign Service test), I checked my mail and found this adorable package waiting for me!  Note how the card has a knitting theme to match the book-so awesome. :)   I don’t often read ‘chick lit,’ but Stephanie’s review sounded great and this came in at the perfect time-I need something light after The Translator.  And the Starbucks gift card will be well used-my niece and I share an addiction to iced chai, hehe.  Thanks so much Stephanie!!

Later I’ll review that Memo to the President, and I’ve put my snarky hat on (just had to post about my package right away).

What a cute card! I’ve seen this book displayed prominently at Borders now. I look forward to hearing what you thought about it!

Kim, isn’t it the cutest? I’m part way into the book, and it’s like a glorious mini vacation (but without the cancer rays!).

That’s a nice card. And I’m looking forward to reading your review on this book. It sounds like a good read. :)

That is such a sweet card to go with the book! I hope you’re having fun reading the book.

Such a nice card! I just love getting stuff in the mail. Particularly books, of course :D

I really enjoyed this book – it’s a step above chick lit, I think.
And I don’t know a thing about knitting :)

Melody, well I really enjoyed it until the ending. So. I’m not sure whether I’ll review it or not.

Myrthe, thanks! I’m in love with the card. :D

Nymeth, mail is so much fun! My first year of college, I got at least one care package a week (I was way far away from home), and it made me feel super-loved.

Becca, I don’t use chick lit in a derogatory way! It certainly made me want to knit. :)

Shadow of the Silk Road by Colin Thubron
This is the first book I've read by Thurbon. I love his intellectual, distinctly British tone.
Country of My Skull by Antjie Krog
It's gotten a lot more depressing, but it's the kind of depressing that's necessary. Krog is a journalist and a poet, which I think explains the unusual style. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's effective.
Portrait of a Lady by Henry James (on CD)
I'm So Mad at Isabel right now. So mad. And annoyed with James; I just don't buy that she'd reject an awesome guy and then accept a horrid one. Hmph.
The Arabian Nights, trans. by Husain Haddawy and The Arabian Nights:a Companion by Robert Irwin
I've stalled on reading the Companion, since it's now full of literary criticism (not my favourite topic), but I'm still enjoying The Nights! I've only got 150 pages left.
Children of the Night ed. by Gloria Naylor
I lost this one for awhile! But I've found it, so I should get back into the stories soon. :)
